AT ST. MARY’S RETREAT HOUSE IN LEMONT, IL

Check-In begins at 4:00 PM Friday

Feel free to bring along your favorite snacks to share

Friday dinner is at 7:00 PM

The fee for the weekend is still only $95.00.
This covers private room, linens, and excellent meals.

Old Grapevines Requested…

The Alcoholics Anonymous District 61 Grapevine Chairperson is asking for old Grapevine magazines. The goal of this request is to share this literature primarily with people in the local correctional facilities in an effort to increase awareness and hope of recovery. The magazines need altering to be safely introduced to the corrections environment. Therefore we are asking for you to donate through the district and not directly to jail facilities in our area.

To make arrangements for old magazine drop-off locations or to assist in altering the periodicals already received, please email AA District 61’s Grapevine Chairperson.

We appreciate your donations and service.

Welcome the AA in District 61. Alcoholics Anonymous has many AA meetings in the fox valley and surrounding regions. If you feel you have a problem with alcohol, you are welcome to attend Closed meetings of Alcoholics Anonymous. Open meetings of AA are meant for anyone who has a desire to learn more about alcoholism or is showing support for members of AA. Al-anon links can be found in the information menu. The AA preamble can be found in the footer of this page.

What A.A. Can Do For Your School

Welcome Educators,

As alcoholics ourselves, we understand that most teenagers with drinking problems are probably not yet ready to hear a message of recovery. What we are hoping to do is plant a seed that might be harvested any number of years down the road. For this reason, we would love to work with your school either by sending literature or A.A. speakers to work with a any students who might have an interest. A.A. can also send speakers to talk to health classes about what A.A. is and how it works. A.A. does not charge for any of these services.

If you would like to take advantage of any of these resources or just speak with someone about how Alcoholics Anonymous can work with your school, please contact our CPC Chairperson. We welcome the chance to carry our message of recovery to anyone in need; it is what keeps us sober.”

Help Make It Happen! AA 2010 Big Book Conference

Visit the Big Book Conference Site. District 61 is host to the 2010 Northern Illinois Area 20 Big Book Conference and we’re looking for people who want to help! There are many opportunities for service work. Many positions have yet to be filled.

The event is scheduled for November 13th, 2010. Fellow AA’s from many states and regions will be in attendance. District 61 is blessed with strong fellowship and community support. Let us share that blessing with all those that cross our path.

The A.A. Preamble

Alcoholics Anonymous is a fellowship of men and women who share their experience, strength and hope with each other that they may solve their common problem and help others to recover from alcoholism.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.

The 12 Steps of Alcoholics Anonymous

1. We admitted we were powerless over alcohol—that our lives had become unmanageable.

2. Came to believe that a Power greater than ourselves could restore us to sanity.
3. Made a decision to turn our will and our lives over to the care of God as we understood Him.
4. Made a searching and fearless moral inventory of ourselves.
5. Admitted to God, to ourselves, and to another human being the exact nature of our wrongs.
6. Were entirely ready to have God remove all these defects of character.
7. Humbly asked Him to remove our shortcomings.
8. Made a list of all persons we had harmed, and became willing to make amends to them all.
9. Made direct amends to such people wherever possible, except when to do so would injure them or others.
10. Continued to take personal inventory and when we were wrong promptly admitted it.
11. Sought through prayer and meditation to improve our conscious contact with God, as we understood Him, praying only for knowledge of His will for us and the power to carry that out.
12. Having had a spiritual awakening as the result of these Steps, we tried to carry this message to alcoholics, and to practice these principles in all our affairs.
