NIA 2010 Spring Conference

• $110 per person includes: Activities & workshops, 2 nights lodging, 3 meals served Saturday and breakfast served Sunday.
• Among activities being offered are: 3^rd & 11^th Step workshops, Guided meditations, A “Closer walk with God” nature stroll, Step & discussion meetings, Saturday speaker meeting.
• Check-in starts Friday, May 14^th at 6:00 pm followed by a brief orientation at 7:15.
• Accommodations: 4-5 women per room, room assignments determined upon arrival. Linens, blankets, pillow & towels provided.

1. A snack or dessert style dish for the Friday evening “PJ meet & treat” gathering.  (Please label your non-disposable dishes)

District 61 is host to the 2010 Northern Illinois Area 20 Big Book Conference and we’re looking for people who want to help! There are many opportunities for service work. Many positions have yet to be filled.

The event is scheduled for November 13th, 2010. Fellow AA’s from many states and regions will be in attendance. District 61 is blessed with strong fellowship and community support. Let us share that blessing with all those that cross our path.

SAN ANTONIO – IT’S BEYOND
CONVENTIONAL!

San Antonio is a city rich with history and wonder. A land of epic
battles and flowing rivers, it is a melting pot of diverse cultures. Walk
the lines drawn for independence when you visit the Alamo—one of
five Spanish colonial missions. Stroll the cobblestone sidewalks of the
River Walk to uncover an outdoor theatre with flamenco dancers and
mariachis, nationally acclaimed museums, and sidewalk cafes that offer
everything from authentic Tex-Mex to international cuisines.

MEETINGS, MEETINGS, MEETINGS

Beginning Thursday at midnight through early Sunday, Marathon
A.A.meetings will be held in English, Spanish and French. A.A. topic
meetings, workshops, panels, special interest meetings, and regional
meetings will be held Friday and Saturday at the Henry B. Gonzalez
Convention Center and the Grand Hyatt San Antonio. Sharing with
members from around the world will energize you to carry the A.A.
message back home!

A FIESTA OF A.A. BIG EVENTS

Thursday night enjoy the “Party in the Park” right outside Halls C
& D of the Convention Center in Hemisfair Park. Start in the park;
hop on into the Convention Center and swing over to the Grand
Hyatt San Antonio for dancing fun. Friday night we all come
together in the Alamodome Stadium for the Flag Ceremony and
Opening A.A.Meeting; Saturday night an Old-timers A.A.Meeting;
and Sunday morning the Closing A.A.Meeting. There will be more
dancing and fellowship opportunities at the Convention Center after
the Friday and Saturday night A.A. meetings.

AL-ANON AND ALATEEN ACTIVITIES

Al-Anon and Alateen have scheduled a variety of daytime activities,
including meetings and workshops at the Marriott Rivercenter. In
addition to the English program, there will be meetings in French,
Spanish, and other languages. And, of course, Al-Anons and Alateens
will join the festivities at the Thursday night “Party in the Park,” the
Big Meetings and more.

SOUVENIR BOOK

Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age
The International Convention will introduce the soft-cover edition
of Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age. This book, first printed in
1957, tells the history of A.A.’s beginnings, shares about the early
growth of A.A. around the world, and recounts the historic 1955
International Convention in Cleveland, when the old-timers turned
responsibility for A.A.’s future over to the entire membership. If
you have never read this book, we hope that you will treat yourself
to this fascinating chronicle.
This special International Convention souvenir edition of
Alcoholics Anonymous Comes of Age will be a cherished reminder of this
incredible experience.
If you order the souvenir edition when you register, a copy will be
waiting for you when you check in at the Registration Hall.

SPECIAL A.A. GRAPEVINE 75TH
ANNIVERSARY CONVENTION ISSUE

Published for the 2010 International Convention, this special issue
of the Grapevine celebrates the birth and world-wide growth of
Alcoholics Anonymous from 1935 to the present. Drawn from 65
years of Grapevine stories, this richly illustrated magazine contains art
and articles chronicling the growth of A.A. as it happened; pictures,
talks, and reports from past Conventions; histories of the Preamble,
Steps, and Traditions; articles by the co-founders and pioneers of the
program and its distinguished supporters; stories of A.A.’s growth
around the world; and cartoons, jokes, and anecdotes about the early
days of A.A.
Copies of this special, 13th issue of the Grapevine
are limited. Order when you register for the Convention to reserve
a copy for you and your group. Magazines will be waiting for you
when you check in at the Registration Hall.

PHYSICALLY-CHALLENGED GUESTS

Every effort has been made to assure your participation, as well
as to be in compliance with the Americans With Disabilities
Act. Special transportation will be available to you in San
Antonio, if required. Please indicate on the registration form if
you need special transportation and on the housing form if
you require accessible accommodations. Wheelchairs and
companion assistance are not provided – you will need to make
your own arrangements.

PASSPORT INFORMATION

Persons visiting from countries outside of the United States must
have a valid passport and may require other documentation such
as visas. Check with the nearest U.S. Consulate well in advance of
travel. For more information, please visit the U.S. State Department
website.

WEATHER!

With 300 days of sunshine a year, San Antonio is a warm
destination year round.On average, July is the warmestmonth,
with average highs around 96º degrees Fahrenheit and evening
lows around 74º Fahrenheit. A.A. will bemaking its best effort
to provide plenty of shade and water for attendees. As hot as
it is outdoors, be prepared for cool temperatures indoors—the
air conditioning will be on!

OTHER LANGUAGES, INCLUDING ASL

A.A. is truly international, andmeetings in languages including
American Sign Language (ASL), French, Japanese, Spanish,
and more, will be available Friday and Saturday. Additionally,
the Big Meetings in the Alamodome will be simultaneously
interpreted into several languages based on need and cost. ASL
interpretation will be provided at the BigMeetings; look for the
seating sections set aside for this purpose.

Preregistration Fees: $95 USD or $120 CAD(Canadian residents only).
Payable by: Check, Money Order, or Credit Card
International checks and money orders (except Canadian)must be
in U.S. funds drawn on a U.S. bank. NOTE: We cannot accept
travel agency checks for multiple registrations.

Once registered, your confirmation will be emailed to you, along
with a link to theHousing ReservationWeb site. If your preferred
method of communication is mail, please allow one to two weeks
to receive your registration confirmation and housing packet in
the mail.
On-site fees will apply to registrations postmarked or received after
May 14; forms received after that date may not be processed, so
plan to register on-site at the Convention Center (Preregister to
avoid waiting in long lines). The on-site registration fee is
$110 USD.
If you register by the May 14, 2010 deadline, your badge(s) will
be mailed to you. Bring your badge with you to San Antonio; it
is your proof of registration! When you arrive in San Antonio,
come to the Henry B. Gonzalez Convention Center to pick up
your badge holder and Convention Program. The Registration
Hall opensWednesday morning.

CANCELLATIONS AND REFUNDS

All cancellations must be made in writing. Refunds will be made
only upon receipt of your written request enclosing your
badge(s), and if received byMay 14, 2010. No exceptions.There
is a $5 USD or $7 CAD administrative processing fee for
cancellations which will be deducted from the refund. Allow 6
weeks for processing. Written requests and badges should be

HOUSING INFORMATION

Housing reservation information, including the Housing Bureau’s
contact information, will be included with your registration
confirmation. Because of the number of hotel rooms available in
San Antonio, housing for the 2010 International Convention will
be on a first-come, first-served basis. However you must be
registered for the Convention before you may make your
reservations. Once we have received your registration form and
payment, you will receive housing information by the same
method you sent in your registration. If online, a link to the
Housing ReservationWebsite will be sent to your e-mail address
along with your registration confirmation. You will then be able
to complete your hotel reservation online.
If you register by mail or fax, housing information will be sent to
you by postal mail. Complete your housing and deposit
information and send it to the address indicated on the Housing
Reservation Form. Your hotel reservation will be processed and a
confirmation mailed to you.

REGISTRATION POLICIES

1. Registration payment must accompany all mailed or faxed
registration forms.
2. Mailed pre-registration forms must be postmarked, and faxed
forms must be received, byMay 14, 2010. After that date, the
on-site rate of $110 USD will be charged.
3. Any changes to registration information already processed
must be made in writing before May 14, 2010, or onsite. All
changes must be made by the current registrant on file. No
charges will be assessed for corrections to badge information
excluding Substitutions (see below).
4. Substitutions made on or beforeMay 14, 2010 will be subject
to a $5 USD / $7 CAD processing fee.
5. Substitutions after May 14, 2010 must be made on site and
will be subject to a $15 USD processing fee. Note: You must
have the original attendee’s badge tomake on site substitutions.
6. Replacement of lost or forgotten badges will be subject to a
$15 USD reprint fee. Your badge will be mailed to you.

The only requirement for membership is a desire to stop drinking. There are no dues or fees for A.A. membership; we are self-supporting through our own contributions. A.A. is not allied with any sect, denomination, politics, organization or institution; does not wish to engage in any controversy; neither endorses nor opposes any causes. Our primary purpose is to stay sober and help other alcoholics to achieve sobriety.
